Disturbing new trend?

Since the launch of LBP3, I've been seeing a new trend. Levels without video trailers have been getting less attention. It's something that I knew would happen when i learned that PS3 users would not be able to make trailers for their levels. At this point, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. But in the future, I predict that people will become more discriminating and avoid levels that don't have a trailer. Sad news for people that don't have the option to make one.
Whether someone is on PS3 or PS4, they still have the same tools and potential to make fantastic levels. So please, don't judge a level by it's front cover (video trailer). You could be missing something great if you do. |

Hell, you can't even play trailers in the PS3 version.

yea. you can on lbp.me but.. I personally don't watch them because I don't want to be influenced by something that I don't see as fair... if that makes sense.

I don't have the PS4 version so I'm not sure if they have a trailer editor or people are just lazy and upload the raw gameplay footage, but if they don't, it would be cool to implement a Windows Live Movie Maker style trailer editor so people can add special effects, crop videos, stitch together separate videos, add messages, etc. I personally don't think that trailers will influence the player very much. I can't even watch the trailers as the PS3 version is still broken, but if I had PS4 and a level that I was interested in had a trailer, I wouldn't watch it because it would spoil the level.

To edit videos you need to install the app ShareWorks (or something like that) on your PS4, and that basicly is MovieMaker. But many people are too lazy to edit some little things and don't think it's worth downloading an 1Gb app.

I personally love trailers, whether for movies or for games. They are stimulating my appetite and make me hungry to watch a movie or play a game. But I also love pics! I think I'm more the visual type! Visual material is a medium of advertisement and its rather effective (I'm the living example for this! ) Give me a picture, please! (omg! I should stop watching "Germany's next top model by Heidi Klum"! )
Video-trailers may have a little advantage against pictures, but the power of pics should'nt be underestimated. There are many successful gaming magazines available without video-trailers, with pictures only! I think it doesn't really matter whether you use video-trailers or pics to advertise for a level, as long as you use any visual material! However when I'm reading a gaming magazine, then I don't only watch the pics like in a picture-book, but I also want to read some reviews. And thats the part where the communities come into play! Our communities can post their impressions and critics and reviews and so a player can inform himself, whether the community thinks a level is worth to be played or not! Sometimes such reviews are influencing my behavior, sometimes not! If a read a critical review about a new movie, then sometimes I get an oppostional impulse and watch it regardlessly. This is my free decision. Omg! I have a free will! The conditions for getting plays will never be "fair", lifelike! A movie from Steven Spielberg with a multi-million dollar budget will always have a bigger chance to get successful than a noname production with low budget and also low budget for advertisement. Its a great feeling to get many plays, knowing that all the efforts have lead to a certain success, but in my opinion the number of plays should only be an additional cream topping. The creating process itself is rather satisfying to me, to see that you can transfer your ideas into a visual or even playable medium, the process of experimenting and finding solutions when there are obstacles during that process and the experiene, that there is a community, which is feeling for one and sharing one's excitement during the creative process. I think that the meaning of the "number of plays" is totally overrated. To me its more important, what my freinds are thinking about my levels! My opinion! Many greetings, Jürgen^^ |

I don't even watch trailers. It's so hard to find good levels you can't really be picky.

The PS3 could of easily had a DVR function, Skate 3 had one so why not LBP3? Maybe with the select button?
But eh, gotta sell those PS4 systems. |
