LBPK Beta thoughts

For those that got into the beta, what were your reactions/thoughts? I know that I was thrilled when I got my beta key. When I finally got done downloading and installing it... I was just shocked at how, generic here, but "creative" it was. I loved the way they reworked sackboy and his adventures into the game. For instance, if you're familiar with Modnation Racers (MR) then take that and add about 70-90% of Sackboy's style to it and there you have LBPK. The boost pads in MR have been replaced by jetpacks in LBPK. The weapon orbs seen it MR are now a new powerup called "Weaponators." The gameplay had some pretty solid racing and was really entertaining. By the time my friends hopped off for the night I decided to head on over to create mode part of it. I was a little dissapointed in the lack of ingenuity it had compared to MR. As far as I can see it is identical to MR track editor. The bright side of this is that they added the materials and logic of LBP to it. So you can construct your own gameplay pieces for your arena or track. I wasn't really looking, the kart editing was a little lacking and limited to your pod. I hope that in final version of the game that they have something similar to MR's Kart studio, where you can edit ever little inch of your kart and character. If I had to rate the game just based on what I've seen in the beta, I would give it a 7/10. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but as of right now, I sincerely hope this is not going to be a $60 retail priced game. I still like it enough that I'm going to go preorder it at the store. My opinion is obviously not the only one and defianetly not the one you should base your entire thought process off of. So If anybody else has the beta, I encourage you to leave your thoughts here. I hope to see you all on the tracks come October!

I like the gameplay but I hate the editor! Too much from Modnation Racers!

Jeje, actually I'm loving the new Create Mode, (even if it still need a lot of fixing) creating good, elaborated tracks is really easier than making a level in LBP2!
Also, the 3D gives you just so many possibilities, yes, many tools look like ModN R.; but there are much more than MNR hasn't got! I just played a FPS Demo level and the controls where so smooth I actually believe some great Halo/COD remakes will be made when the game is released. |

I found that Create mode was nice, you can make tracks and arenas very easy, the only thing that's hard is to make custom objects. It took me about 8 minutes to make an ant that could be made in LBP2 in 2 minutes. Also, I'd prefer a better way to customize your sackboy, like MNR or LBP2. The only place you can dress up is at the Pod and it's very hard to stick stickers :/
Also, a flip button wouldn't harm anybody |

I really did not like the beta. I think it would have been better to develop an LBP3 with the 3D tools. It would have been a much smarter idea.

I know I'm probably late to this party, but I'll put my two cents in anyway. The beta was a super let-down. Well, it won't be if they give us a correct palette of Movers! >:| And if they fix the glitches. But even then, the game being centered around karting is a really dumb idea. As stated before, developing LBP3 with 3D tools would sell millions, because it's smart. This won't. Just sad to see such a great group of titles go to waste.. :/

I agree with morta. This was an terrible idea from the start... but I have noticed that people have already been breaking the karting grounds. An FPS simulator has already been developed in the beta!

I read a pretty good way of saying why LBPK isn't a good idea in somebody's post back in the official beta forum: It is just like if they wanted toke a whole LBP game for every gaming genre: like LBP Karting, Tennis, Soccer, etc. It is like Mario games (sorry, but some Mario's tennis adventures simply I think they are really bad), when thay should stay in platforming. Going to 3-D platforming (in the Mario example, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D Land) was an innovative smart move, and LBP should go the same
I mean, obviously playing karting races in LBPK will be much more fun than doing it in a LBP2 Karting level, but still, racing levels CAN be done in LBP2, so I don't really see why LBPK is necessary. Anyway, I also agree with Jaeydan. There is enough freedom to make some epicness in Create Mode. |

I kinda disagree that something needs work, I'd rather recommend parctising to use it.

I know this is an old topic, but I never thought about it until now when my friend pointed it out to me that he got his beta vest through the lbpk beta test, now I like in EU I dunno if that has anything to do with it, but it was sent to my dads email (i used his email for my ps3 back when i first made my account) and I can only hope that I can get it, I have a total of 3 accounts because of the amount of levels I post, and the amount of items in my popit, Hopefully someone can give me an answer. really bummed out by this, I've had lbp1 since launch and been a big fan of lbp, it is literally the main game I play.
