Today we celebrate our 5th birthday! And we have something special for you. We celebrate it with a brand new crown contest.

LBFC6 - Decayed Dust

Do you like post-apocalyptic worlds? Have you ever seen movies or series like Terminator, Aeon Flux, The Walking Dead or The 100? Have you ever played games like Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of US, Fallout, Resident Evil or Mad Max? These are only a few examples of post-apocalyptic worlds. We chose this topic because there are so many stories to tell. How do you imagine a world after an apocalypse? How did it happen? LBFC6 is all about your story. We want you to tell us a unique and interesting story about your world and what it would look like.



TASK

Create a post-apocalyptic world that exists (many years) in the future. What does the world look like? Is there still life on the planet? Is there technology or did you return to the Stone Age? How did it happen? What’s the story behind the world? Tell us about it. You can create a platformer, minigame, movie, RPG … whatever you want. But be creative!

FAQ


Q: Can I enter with a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter with a level that I already have on my moon, but hasn’t yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I submit more than one entry?
A: No, only one entry per person.

Q: Can I use level links?
A: Yes, but only one level link per entry is allowed.

Q: Can I enter with a minigame or movie?
A: Yes, you can enter with a level of your choice. We allow all kinds of levels: Platformer, minigame, movie, RPG, shooter … it’s up to you!

Q: Do I have to use Sackboy?
A: No, you are allowed to use any character or even Sackbots.

Q: Does it have to be a 1 player only level?
A: No, you can make a multiplayer level if you want.

Q: Can I co-create with a friend?
A: You can create with whoever you want. But the crown, sackcap, pin and psn card will be awarded to the creator who has published the level.

Q: What happens if the winner already has a crown or sackcap?
A: If the winner already has a crown but not the cap, then just the crown will be awarded to the next place. And vice versa.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: After the deadline the judges will play every entry. It may take a while, so please be patient.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can’t give you an accurate answer to this. But we promise, it won’t be more than a month after the judging begins.

Hmmm... Post-apocalyptic... Do you mean horror?

Horror is possible/allowed. A collapsing world/civilization means horror for some people. But it doesn't have to be horror. Post-apocalyptic worlds can also be very beautiful. It's up to you what you do with the topic.

I'd really love to be part of this contest!! I've had a really great idea of the level that is post-apocalyptic for quite some time now! ...Although... I'm afraid my entry would be controversial since it's going to be inspired by current worldwide conflicts. Well.. we shall see it in the future, but from now on - I'm taking my time to create this level

For this contest will it be mostly focus on story aspect, or gameplay and visual?

The contest is definitely focus on your story but also your presentation of it which includes gameplay and visuals aswell. So have that back in mind

I have some Questions for the contest

1)The Decorate of the level and place have to be destroyed or we can make a place excist in the future but not decayed?...

2) I have found a story of a destruction but im not very good at cinematics... Can we just write a story in the description of the level or we have to make a story inside the level? and if its okay to write the story in the description will i lose points on judging?

It has to be postapocalyptic. You can tell the story in the discription, but I think you should also tell the story of your world with the world itself.

1) Well, it's possible that the world looks great after an apocalypse. Post-apocalypse doesn't mean that it has to be destroyed. It can, but it doesn't have to be. Decayed is just the slogan. A place in the future is allowed. 

2) Cinematics aren't necessary. You can explain the story in the description. But you should tell the story in the level somehow too. Example: You can find diary notes in the level which tell you something about the world. There are many ways to tell a story. You don't even need text. Pictures can tell a story too.

Was Aeon Flux post-apocalyptic?? I only remember it being futuristic >_<

Well, I found Aeon Flux in a list of post-apocalyptic movies. It's more a sci-fi post-apocalypse spy movie or whatever you want to call it.

It's not going to change how we vote, but I personally always remember Fallout, Mad Max, The Last of Us or Planet of the apes when I think of 'postapocalyptic'.

You can do whatever you think is postapocalyptic, as long as you tell the story of your world.

This is a rather exciting contest, I'm definitely entering!

Does it have to be in the future from now or could it be an alternate timeline where we never made it to now. 
For example a post apocalyptic 1920's?

It's allowed to create an alternate timeline.

Doesn't matter which year you choose, as long as it is postapocalyptic.

I'm not planning on entering but I have a question for others. I saw you mention some examples that are all based on reality but with different scenarios. Can the apocalyptic world be of imaginary origin? Like the aftermath of a doomsday in a doodle world or the revenge of the flying cats in ice-cream land? Like does it have to be a reality based apocalypse according to real life?

Imaginary apocalypse is allowed. It doesn't have to be "real life". 

Oh, well if that's the case, I might just enter!

Hello! I'd like to inquire whether gameplay will be an integral part of this competition. Are advanced mechanisms and gameplay platforms a necessity or is the story importance stressed out more? I don't mean to ask if just running in a straight line is accepted, I'm asking if the gameplay is to be an important aspect

Can I just tell a story about how the apocalypse happened and not show the post-apocalyptic world at all.
If not can my level end with just one short scene showing the post-apocalyptic world and the rest of the level tells the story behind it. I already started a level and now I'm kinda worried after reading the rules again :/

You should post the level link of the main level if published.

Sorry just want to make sure. In your rules it said that you can have level link. So having 2 levels is fine for this contest if one of them is level link to your original level right? (Just don't want make mistake before I publish)

It has to be a sublevel. Otherwise you could count them as 2 levels and that means 2 entries. So be sure to make it a sublevel.

What is a sublevel exactly? Would an Intro cutscene count as a sublevel which afterwards puts you into the main level be ok?

Yes but the 2nd level has to be invisible to the public (sub level)
